About Elissa

Elissa Sarah Froman (1983-2013) was a tireless advocate for justice and equality. She was also extremely sarcastic. A graduate of The George Washington University, she spent her short post-college career advocating for social change as a legislative associate with the National Council of Jewish Women and the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism in Washington, D.C.

Elissa inspired everyone around her to be braver, kinder, and unapologetically themselves. Before she passed away, Elissa had been admitted to rabbinical school at Hebrew Union College and planned to take her unique blend of Jewish justice and humor to the pulpit.

Froman believed in the power of camp and brunch, and she never met a tote bag she didn’t love.

Emily Goodstein

Emily Goodstein (pictured here with her daughter, Edie) met Elissa in the computer lab at The George Washington University in 2006. They hit it off instantly and became pals.

Like many new parents in the huge community Elissa left behind, Emily named her daughter after her fierce friend and dreamed of a way to share a bit more about her namesake. That’s how we got E is for Elissa! When she’s not busy writing children’s books or dressing babies up in tiny tuxedos, Emily can be found at the helm of Greater Good Strategy helping nonprofits raise money and market themselves online.
